Senior Site Reliability Engineer (Event-Engagement)
About the role
Cvent is a leading meetings, events, and hospitality technology provider with over 6,000 employees and 34,000+ customers worldwide, including 60% of the Fortune 500. Founded in 1999, Cvent delivers a comprehensive event marketing and management platform and offers software solutions that help hotels, venues, and destinations grow their group/MICE and corporate travel business. The company's technology brings millions of people together at events around the world, transforming the meetings and events industry through innovative technology that powers human connection. Cvent's strength lies in its people, fostering a culture where everyone is encouraged to think like entrepreneurs, take risks, and make confident decisions while valuing diverse perspectives and celebrating differences. AI is woven into Cvent's DNA; the team continuously learns and adapts, integrating AI into daily work to deliver exceptional results while relying on human judgment and creativity. As an embedded SRE partner, you will keep the infrastructure running for Cvent's event product suite, rebuild how SRE operates, and help shape the future of AI‑augmented work.
Responsibilities
- Own reliability across a complex, global product portfolio as the embedded SRE partner for dev teams, understanding each product's architecture, failure modes, and customer impact zones.
- Migrate legacy EC2 and Ruby estates onto Cvent's paved road and onboard acquired companies onto the platform, discovering existing architectures and building out migrations in CDK without disrupting product teams.
- Build, tune, and operate AI agents (using Claude Code and Cvent's internal AI platform) to automate walk‑up triage, migration pre‑flight checks, PR review automation, incident postmortems, and other repetitive toil.
- Drive SLOs and observability: instrument journey health, define meaningful SLIs, conduct incident retrospectives, and build an alert posture that makes on‑call bearable and eventually boring in the right way.
- Embed with dev teams: perform architecture reviews, co‑own production readiness decisions, and help build the team knowledge base (runbooks, postmortems, playbooks, agent training sets).
- Champion CI/CD, IaC, and security standards, guiding dev teams toward best practices while flagging genuinely dangerous issues versus mere imperfections.
Requirements
- Scripting fluency in Python, TypeScript, or Bash – enough to automate your own toil.
- Observability tooling experience (Datadog, Splunk, or equivalent) – building dashboards, not just reading them.
- Incident command experience – leading calls, writing postmortems, and closing loops with stakeholders.
- Solid grasp of SRE fundamentals (SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, toil accounting) applied in practice.
- Experience working embedded with product development teams in an Agile SDLC.
- Daily use of AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) as an engineering accelerant.
- Experience integrating LLM‑based tooling into CI/CD or operational workflows.
- EKS/Kubernetes cluster operations – upgrades, ArgoCD, node pool management.
- Legacy modernization experience (EC2 to containers, monolith to services).
- Configuration management with Chef, Ansible, or equivalent.
Skills
- AWS: ECS, EKS, Lambda, CloudFront, ProxySQL, RabbitMQ, Redis/ElastiCache.
- Tools: ArgoCD, Datadog, PagerDuty, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy, Terraform/CDK, Docker.
- Languages: Ruby/Rails, Elixir, Node.js, Python, TypeScript, Bash.
