About the Role
This full-time Information Technology Specialist (PLCYPLN/NETWORK), GS-2210-11, serves as the Installation Senior Server Administrator/Virtualization Subject Matter Expert (SME) at the 628th Communications Squadron, Joint Base (JB) Charleston, South Carolina. In this critical leadership role, you will oversee the delivery of secure, uninterrupted network services, guide a team of technical experts, and manage network infrastructure in a highly dynamic Department of War (DoW) environment. You will coordinate with commercial vendors, government sponsors, and mission partners to manage contracts and execute infrastructure upgrades with minimal mission downtime.
The successful candidate will lead the Network Control Center (NCC) in delivering secure, uninterrupted cyberspace operations and ensure all network and system infrastructure meet stringent DoW cybersecurity standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead a technical team to deliver secure, uninterrupted network services at JB Charleston.
- Manage and maintain network infrastructure in a dynamic DoW environment.
- Coordinate with commercial vendors, government sponsors, and mission partners to execute infrastructure upgrades with minimal downtime.
- Ensure compliance with DoW cybersecurity standards for all network and system infrastructure.
- Plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium-sized organization.
- Provide guidance or training to customers and workgroup managers to prevent problem recurrences.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- This position is designated as a Drug Test Designated Position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a “Top Secret” security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
- Must be able to obtain and maintain foundational cyberspace qualification within 9 months and resident qualification within 12 months of assignment to a cyberspace work role.
- Knowledge of LAN/WAN design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services.
- Knowledge of network architecture, topology, and protocols typically found at base and lower-level organizations.
- Knowledge of network customer use and systems maintenance to provide guidance or training.
- Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium-sized organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline (highly desired).
- Experience in network administration (LAN/WAN).
- Familiarity with networking tools such as SolarWinds, Wireshark, and ACAS (Assured Compliance Assessment Solution).
- System administration experience with Windows/Linux servers.
- Scripting experience, particularly with PowerShell.
- Experience with IT service management platforms like EITaaS (a plus).
- Server configuration and virtualization experience (VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V).
- Firewall management experience.
- Experience with vulnerability scanning, patch management, and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
- Supervisory and team leadership skills.
Pay
Special Salary Rate: $75,278 - $97,867 based on experience.
Recruitment, relocation, or retention incentives may be available to those who qualify.
Depending on the type of position, a 1-year probationary period or 2-year trial period may be required.
