Senior Security Officer - Day Shift

Full time, Day shift (7:00am - 3:30pm). The schedule includes working a weekend and holiday rotation. $3,000 new hire sign-on bonus.

About the role

Under the direction of the Security Supervisor, the Senior Security Officer (Armed) is responsible for the performance of all security and safety duties as assigned. Provide armed, uniformed security presence throughout St. Joseph’s Health (SJH) campuses. Assess threats, provide immediate response to, and mitigate offenses against public order, life, and safety of colleagues, staff, patients, visitors, and others on and within the buildings and grounds of SJH. Coordinate with law enforcement agencies based on threat assessment and offenses. Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate department equipment, including motor vehicles, firearms, pepper gel, and other assigned tools safely and proficiently.
• Perform security/safety rounds and fixed post assignments using prescribed procedures; de-escalate workplace violence, mitigate threats, and handle emotionally disturbed persons (EDP).
• Respond to calls for service in a timely and appropriate manner when not on a fixed post assignment.
• Perform searches of patients, visitors, and staff in accordance with the search policy, adhering to the organization's core value of reverence.
• Conduct thorough and complete investigations, submitting reports in a timely manner using SJH designated reporting systems.
• Identify hazards and threats to safety and security, initiating corrective measures and alerting supervisors immediately.
• Utilize strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse groups in fact-finding, problem-solving, and dispute resolution.
• Demonstrate knowledge and competency with video management and access control systems.
• Document incidents and events using video surveillance, access control systems, and departmental cameras.
• Maintain confidentiality of all investigations and related matters.

Requirements

• Valid State of New York Armed Security Guard License (includes firearms training and a valid NYS pistol permit) OR active police officer status (New York State) at time of hiring is required. Active police officers must obtain an armed security license and a NYS pistol permit within 6 months of hire.
• High School Diploma/GED Certificate required; Associate Degree preferred.
• Valid NYS Driver’s License required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in any combination of the following: Armed Security Guard, Healthcare/Hospital security, or Law Enforcement (Police or Peace Officer). Five years of Law Enforcement experience preferred.
• Must successfully pass a psychiatric evaluation prior to hire.
• Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the New York State Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law.
• Knowledge and understanding of the use of force continuum and its application within a private security setting.
• IAHSS Basic Security Certification must be completed within one year of hire.
• FEMA Emergency Management Institute courses (IS-100c) must be completed within 90 days of hire.
• BLS Certification required upon hire or within three weeks of hire.

Work Environment

• Frequent exposure to adverse working conditions such as noise, noxious odors, temperatures, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases.
• Routine or potential exposure to blood, body fluids, excretions, or secretions.

Physical Demands

• Frequent close eye work (computers, typing, reading, and writing).
• Sedentary (sitting), light work (standing, walking, lifting <15 pounds), moderate work (lifting 15-30 pounds, prolonged use of small hand instruments).
• Moderately heavy work (lifting, moving, loading 31-50 pounds).
• Heavy/hard work (above-average strength and stamina, lifting >51 pounds; patient handling/lifting, maximum 35 pounds).

Pay

Pay Range: $25.00 - $35.70 per hour. Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates.
