About the role
The Hartford's Global Specialty IT team is seeking a Senior Scrum Master. We are looking for a talented professional with a track record of being a servant leader for SCRUM teams. Our ideal candidate will leverage deep Agile expertise and skills to deliver both invest and maintenance projects within the Data & Analytics Value stream. This position requires in-office presence Tuesday/Wednesday with remote work flexibility Monday, Thursday, and Friday.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. This role will have a hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office (Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT, or Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate all the Agile/SCRUM ceremonies - DSU's, Sprint planning, Sprint reviews, Retrospective/Sprint demos.
- Partner with the Product Owner, IT Delivery Lead, and Business leadership to form execution delivery plans and manage progress, and facilitate release planning.
- Organize and facilitate ceremonies, identify improvement opportunities to optimize velocity and quality while mitigating risk.
- Report to Release Train Engineer and work closely with the RTE for overall delivery of Agile release train PI objectives.
- Partner with the Product Owner to ensure the backlog items are prioritized based on business value and ready for the team.
- Track and communicate the overall team progress, providing visibility to stakeholders.
- Serve as a filter to remove impediments to progress as identified by the team.
- Assess the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coach the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization.
- Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on healing and problem-solving.
- Motivate the team to be disciplined and accountable for ensuring the Agile tools (Rally/JIRA) hygiene is maintained.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge and experience working with Agile reports/Metrics.
- Experience working with PO in backlog grooming/refinements.
- Experience in participating in Program Increment (PI Planning).
- Experience in Estimation and Story pointing.
- Experience in Team Planning- Capacity/velocity.
- Ability to analyze and think quickly and to resolve conflict.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills, and ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across teams.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
- Self-motivation and ability to stay focused in the middle of distraction.
- Scrum Master certification.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of Data assets including Snowflake, SQL Server, Tableau, or similar data assets.
- Property & Casualty insurance industry experience.
Pay
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency, and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is: $108,800 - $163,200.
Schedule
Hybrid work schedule: in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; remote Monday and Friday.
