About the role
We are looking for a seasoned Senior Scrum Master to join The Hartford's Global Specialty IT team. This role leverages deep Agile expertise to deliver both invest and maintenance projects within the Data & Analytics Value stream. The position offers a hybrid work model with in-office presence required Tuesday/Wednesday and remote flexibility Monday, Thursday, and Friday.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship and must be located in or willing to work from an office in Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT, or Charlotte, NC.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate all Agile/SCRUM ceremonies: Daily Stand-Ups, Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives, and Sprint Demos.
- Partner with the Product Owner, IT Delivery Lead, and Business leadership to form execution delivery plans, manage progress, and facilitate release planning.
- Organize and facilitate ceremonies, identify improvement opportunities to optimize velocity and quality while mitigating risk.
- Report to the Release Train Engineer and work closely with the RTE for overall delivery of Agile Release Train PI objectives.
- Partner with the Product Owner to ensure backlog items are prioritized based on business value and ready for the team.
- Track and communicate overall team progress, providing visibility to stakeholders.
- Serve as a filter to remove impediments to progress as identified by the team.
- Assess the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization, coaching the team to higher levels of maturity at a sustainable pace.
- Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame or retribution, emphasizing healing and problem-solving.
- Motivate the team to maintain discipline and accountability for Agile tool hygiene (Rally/JIRA).
Requirements
- Strong knowledge and experience working with Agile reports and metrics.
- Experience working with Product Owners in backlog grooming and refinements.
- Experience participating in Program Increment (PI) Planning.
- Experience in estimation and story pointing.
- Experience in team planning, including capacity and velocity.
- Ability to analyze and think quickly to resolve conflict.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
- Self-motivation and ability to stay focused amid distractions.
- Scrum Master certification.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of data assets including Snowflake, SQL Server, Tableau, or similar.
- Property & Casualty insurance industry experience.
Pay
The annualized base pay range for this role is $108,800 - $163,200. Actual base pay may vary based on performance, proficiency, and demonstration of competencies. The base pay is one component of the total compensation package, which may also include bonuses, long-term incentives, and recognition awards.
