Senior Scientist
About the role
The Senior Scientist position at Sonoma Land Trust builds on the organization's conservation efforts by leveraging the latest scientific insights to inform strategy, planning, preserve management, educational programs, decision-making, and advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Oversee applied field research and scientific data collections for the Land Trust
- Collaborate across the organization to identify and implement landscape-scale conservation strategies
- Support the leadership team in advising conservation research strategy
- Supervise the Land Trust’s GIS Manager
Requirements
- Technical expertise in conservation science
- Experience in managing and analyzing large datasets
- A deep understanding of the intersection between conservation, climate change, biodiversity, and environmental justice
- Strong collaboration and partnership skills with peers in conservation and academia
Qualifications
- PhD in a relevant field such as ecology, environmental science, or related discipline
- At least 5 years of professional experience in conservation science or related field
- Experience in project management and stakeholder engagement
Skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Proficiency in GIS software

Pay
This is a full-time, exempt, benefit-eligible position with an anticipated annual salary range of $141,000–$159,000, commensurate with knowledge, abilities, and experience. Relocation support is available.
Schedule
The position is located at the Sonoma Land Trust office in Santa Rosa, California, and staff are working in a hybrid model. Some field work is required.
