Senior Safety Specialist

About the role

The Sr. Safety Specialist will lead safety initiatives in a distribution center operation, promoting a culture of safety and compliance with OSHA standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise in areas such as environmental management, compliance, occupational safety, risk management, and occupational health.
  • Ensure OSHA compliance through various measures including powered industrial trucks (PITs), new hire safety training, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, chemical safety, and recordkeeping/reporting.
  • Assist in accident/injury investigations and root cause analysis, and act as a subject matter expert for safety/security questions.
  • Ensure visibility of HSE initiatives and recommend improvements in effectiveness.
  • Monitor contractor and visitor safety policies and liaise with local first responders during emergencies.
  • Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and train forklift operators.
  • Manage relationships with site security and support other departments like quality, food safety, production, and logistics.
  • Implement continuous improvement strategies to enhance workplace safety and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in occupational safety, preferably in manufacturing/industrial settings.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or Environmental Health & Safety preferred, with 4+ years of EHS experience considered.
  • Preferred certifications: CSP, ASP, OHST, etc.
  • Expertise in OSHA compliance, particularly with powered industrial trucks, lockout/tagout, and strain/sprain prevention.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of an organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google apps.

  • Versatility in handling issues and maintaining productivity in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
