About the role
The Sr. Safety Specialist will lead safety initiatives in a distribution center operation, promoting a culture of safety and compliance with OSHA standards.
Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise in areas such as environmental management, compliance, occupational safety, risk management, and occupational health.
- Ensure OSHA compliance through various measures including powered industrial trucks (PITs), new hire safety training, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, chemical safety, and recordkeeping/reporting.
- Assist in accident/injury investigations and root cause analysis, and act as a subject matter expert for safety/security questions.
- Ensure visibility of HSE initiatives and recommend improvements in effectiveness.
- Monitor contractor and visitor safety policies and liaise with local first responders during emergencies.
- Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and train forklift operators.
- Manage relationships with site security and support other departments like quality, food safety, production, and logistics.
- Implement continuous improvement strategies to enhance workplace safety and efficiency.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in occupational safety, preferably in manufacturing/industrial settings.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or Environmental Health & Safety preferred, with 4+ years of EHS experience considered.
- Preferred certifications: CSP, ASP, OHST, etc.
- Expertise in OSHA compliance, particularly with powered industrial trucks, lockout/tagout, and strain/sprain prevention.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of an organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google apps.
