About the role
The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Risk Management, Occupational Safety, Business, Public Health, Science Education, or a related field, and two (2) years of experience in risk reduction, occupational health, or safety program administration. A Master's degree or higher in a related field, and one (1) year of experience, is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Conduct safety inspections and assessments.
- Investigate incidents, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions to prevent injuries and improve workplace safety.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and supervisors.
- Administer safety initiatives such as random drug testing and maintain records and databases related to training, inspections, hazardous materials, and safety equipment.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations across various municipal operations.
- Organize drills and coordinate with emergency services as needed.
- Develop and recommend safety policies and procedures, support emergency preparedness efforts, and serve as a liaison with internal departments, external agencies, and the Safety Committee.
- Oversee designated staff, coordinate work activities, evaluate performance, and ensure adherence to policies and safety standards.
Requirements
- Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state by the date of appointment.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
- Positions requiring a CDL or safety-sensitive roles are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations.

- Knowledge of Workers' Compensation laws, practices, and procedures.

- Knowledge of the operation of video and digital cameras and other test equipment utilized in safety training, investigation, and gathering evidence for public records and files.
