About the role
The position involves conducting safety inspections and assessments, performing job analyses, investigating incidents, developing and delivering safety training programs, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and serving as a liaison with internal departments and external agencies.
Responsibilities
- Conduct safety inspections and assessments of facilities, work areas, equipment, and materials to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Perform job analyses, investigate incidents, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions to prevent injuries and improve workplace safety.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and supervisors, administer safety initiatives such as random drug testing, and maintain records and databases related to training, inspections, hazardous materials, and safety equipment.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations across various municipal operations, including Hazard Communication (HazCom), industrial hygiene, hazardous materials, PPE, fire protection, confined space entry, and equipment and driver safety.
- Conduct inspections and assessments, prepare accident and incident reports, maintain safety equipment, organize drills, and coordinate with emergency services as needed.
- Develop and recommend safety policies and procedures, support emergency preparedness efforts, and serve as a liaison with internal departments, external agencies, and the Safety Committee.
- Oversee designated staff, coordinate work activities, evaluate performance, and ensure adherence to policies and safety standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Risk Management, Occupational Safety, Business, Public Health, Science Education, or a related field, and two (2) years of experience in risk reduction, occupational health, or safety program administration.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
- Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state by the date of appointment.
- Positions requiring a CDL or safety-sensitive positions are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Risk Management, Occupational Safety, Business, Public Health, Science Education, or a related field, and two (2) years of experience in risk reduction, occupational health, or safety program administration.
