About the role
As a Senior Robotics Electrical and Firmware Engineer at Smith+Nephew, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of surgical robotics. You will collaborate with a highly skilled, cross-functional team to develop next-generation robotic solutions that improve patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Developing and integrating electrical and firmware solutions for surgical robotic systems from concept through production and launch
- Leading hands-on design, assembly, testing, and analysis of prototypes to ensure performance against requirements and specifications
- Designing and integrating low-level motor control and embedded systems for electromechanical medical devices
- Supporting embedded firmware development in C and C++ and performing board bring-up and product troubleshooting
- Collaborating closely with electrical, software, mechanical, quality, manufacturing, systems, regulatory, and program teams
- Creating and maintaining design documentation, test plans, and validation activities in compliance with design control and regulatory requirements
- Participating in and leading technical design reviews to ensure high-quality, robust solutions
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechatronics, or Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 4+ years of experience
- Strong hands-on experience in electrical and firmware development for electromechanical products
- Proven experience with embedded systems, motor control, sensors, and serial communication protocols
- Proficiency in low-level debugging using tools such as oscilloscopes and multimeters
- Experience working in a regulated product development environment, ideally within medical devices

- Proficiency in C and C++ programming languages
