About the role
As a Senior Robotics Electrical and Firmware Engineer at Smith+Nephew, you will be part of a dynamic team developing cutting-edge surgical robotics solutions. Your work will directly impact patient outcomes and contribute to advancing medical technology.
Responsibilities
- Develop and integrate electrical and firmware solutions for surgical robotic systems from concept through production and launch
- Lead hands-on design, assembly, testing, and analysis of prototypes to ensure performance against requirements and specifications
- Design and integrate low-level motor control and embedded systems for electromechanical medical devices
- Support embedded firmware development in C and C++ and perform board bring-up and product troubleshooting
- Collaborate closely with electrical, software, mechanical, quality, manufacturing, systems, regulatory, and program teams
- Create and maintain design documentation, test plans, and validation activities in compliance with design control and regulatory requirements
- Participate in and lead technical design reviews to ensure high-quality, robust solutions
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechatronics, or Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 4+ years of experience
- Strong hands-on experience in electrical and firmware development for electromechanical products
- Proven experience with embedded systems, motor control, sensors, and serial communication protocols
- Proficiency in low-level debugging using tools such as oscilloscopes and multimeters
- Experience working in a regulated product development environment, ideally within medical devices
