Job Description

Lead roadway geometric design, including horizontal and vertical alignments, typical sections, corridors, and profiles.
Prepare roadway plans, specifications, technical memoranda, and quantity calculations, and review of similar tasks done by other team members and/or internal production centers.
Serve as Engineer of Record for roadway design packages, sign and seal plans in accordance with professional licensure requirements.
Ensure compliance with AASHTO, state DOTs, FHWA, MUTCD, and other applicable federal, state, and local design standards.
Coverage of responsibilities includes coordination with structures, drainage, utilities, traffic, ITS, and construction staging disciplines.
Provide technical oversight and quality control (QC/QA) for designs prepared by junior and intermediate staff.
Review and/or design verification of submittals, shop drawings, design changes, and construction RFIs related to roadway elements.
Support design development across all project phases, including conceptual studies, preliminary engineering, IFR/IFC design, and as‑built documentation.
Participate in technical meetings with internal international production centers, design partners, clients, DOTs, and approving authorities.
Assist with constructability reviews, value engineering efforts, and risk mitigation strategies.
Respond to client’s RFIs.
Mentorship, training, and technical guidance to roadway engineering staff.
Aid in proposal development and business development efforts, including technical approaches, design narratives, and fee estimates.
Perform site visits as required to support construction activities and resolve field issues.
Capable of undertaking out-of-state trips or longer stays at client’s offices or as required in upcoming project assignments, within the U.S.
Carry out other duties as assigned to support project and business needs.

Required Skills And Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (BSc/BEng)
  • Minimum 12 years of roadway/highway design experience, preferably on DOT or design-build transportation projects.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as Engineer of Record and signing/sealing roadway plans.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferably in GA, NC, TN and LA) with ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity in other states within a defined timeframe.
  • Demonstrable relevant project experience equivalent to a high level of qualification for Roadways Area Classes/Company Classifications in DOT agencies, specifically in GDOT’s 3.01 to 3.05 Area Classes.
  • Strong working knowledge of AASHTO Green Book, GDOT Design Policy Manual, MUTCD, and applicable FHWA standards.
  • Experience coordinating with state DOTs and federal transportation agencies.
  • Experience engaging directly with contractors as clients.
  • Experience in design-build or PPP project environments preferred.
  • Proficiency in roadway design software such as OpenRoads Designer, InRoads, Civil 3D, or equivalent.
  • Must have worked on Multi-Lane Urban Roadway Widening or Reconstruction Design in heavily developed commercial, industrial or residential area or Multi-lane Rural Interstate Highway Design or Multi-lane Urban Interstate Highway Design.
  • Strong understanding of roadway quantities, pay items, and cost control.
  • Familiarity with contract documents, special provisions, and non-standard special provisions.
  • Ability to perform technical reviews under compressed schedules.
  • Capable of undertaking out-of-state trips or longer stays at client’s offices or as required in upcoming project assignments, within the U.S.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead technical teams in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Collaborative mindset with a focus on safety, quality, and compliance.
