About the role
This is a hybrid position based in Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach or Newport News) or Glen Allen, offering the opportunity to work on high-profile VDOT and municipal roadway projects while helping shape the future of our roadway design practice.
Responsibilities
- Design and manage VDOT and municipal roadway projects from concept through construction
- Develop roadway plans, profiles, typical sections, maintenance of traffic plans, and cost estimates
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and project stakeholders
- Mentor and guide junior engineers while supporting team growth
- Coordinate with contractors, utility providers, and public agencies
- Participate in public meetings and help drive successful project outcomes
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- 6+ years of roadway design experience, preferably in Virginia
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; candidates licensed in other states will be considered with a commitment to obtain Virginia licensure
- Experience with MicroStation OpenRoads Designer (ORD); Civil 3D experience is a plus
- Knowledge of AASHTO, VDOT, and local design standards and practices
- Strong communication, project management, and leadership skills
Qualifications
- Knowledgeable about transportation engineering principles and practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Skills
- Proficiency in MicroStation OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
- Experience with Civil 3D
- Strong understanding of AASHTO, VDOT, and local design standards and practices
- Excellent communication and project management skills

- Competitive salary range of $125,000 to $175,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications
