About the role

This is a hybrid position based in Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach or Newport News) or Glen Allen, offering the opportunity to work on high-profile VDOT and municipal roadway projects while helping shape the future of our roadway design practice.

Responsibilities

  • Design and manage VDOT and municipal roadway projects from concept through construction
  • Develop roadway plans, profiles, typical sections, maintenance of traffic plans, and cost estimates
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and project stakeholders
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers while supporting team growth
  • Coordinate with contractors, utility providers, and public agencies
  • Participate in public meetings and help drive successful project outcomes

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • 6+ years of roadway design experience, preferably in Virginia
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; candidates licensed in other states will be considered with a commitment to obtain Virginia licensure
  • Experience with MicroStation OpenRoads Designer (ORD); Civil 3D experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of AASHTO, VDOT, and local design standards and practices
  • Strong communication, project management, and leadership skills

  • Knowledgeable about transportation engineering principles and practices
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Skills

  • Proficiency in MicroStation OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
  • Experience with Civil 3D
  • Strong understanding of AASHTO, VDOT, and local design standards and practices
  • Excellent communication and project management skills

  • Competitive salary range of $125,000 to $175,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications
