About the role
WRA is currently seeking a senior-level Roadway Engineer with a strong technical background to support the growth of our practice in Virginia Beach, VA. The Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for the planning and design of assigned projects by supervising the design efforts of junior engineers and coordinating with other design disciplines to develop project deliverables.
Anticipated types of projects include intersection and interchange design, new roadway alignments, roadway widenings, interstate design, and pedestrian and bicycle facilities design. The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for managing project development, including coordination with clients and subconsultants, and will handle the design of horizontal and vertical alignments, development of roadway plans and profiles, roadside evaluation and design, maintenance of traffic design, preparation of construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and the development of technical reports.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the design efforts of junior engineers
- Coordinate with other design disciplines to develop project deliverables
- Manage the development of projects, including client and subconsultant coordination
- Design horizontal and vertical alignments
- Develop roadway plans and profiles
- Perform roadside evaluation and design
- Design maintenance of traffic plans
- Prepare construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates
- Develop technical reports
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (master’s degree preferred)
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Virginia or ability to obtain within six months through comity from another state
- 16+ years of progressive experience related to highway engineering, including experience with VDOT
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing at all levels of the organization
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to manage multiple assignments
- Experience with design software tools such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, and AutoCAD (preferred)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future

Pay
The expected compensation range for this position is $160,000.00 - $240,000.00. The specific compensation offered may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and experience.
Position is onsite in Virginia Beach, VA.
