About the role

Acuity is seeking a Senior Risk Control Consultant to conduct risk assessments and surveys for the Commercial Underwriting Department. In this role, you will identify loss exposures, prepare detailed survey reports, and provide expert risk control guidance to policyholders and agents. You will recommend strategies to reduce the frequency and severity of claims, partner with policyholders to develop and implement customized safety and training programs, and deliver a variety of risk management services, including accident investigations, industrial hygiene surveys (such as noise mapping), supervisory safety training, and participation in employee safety meetings to promote safe workplace practices. The position covers the Green Bay and Fox Valley/Appleton areas.

Responsibilities

  • Collects information on prospects and policyholders regarding conformity to company underwriting standards and industry best practices, including a thorough review of operations, analysis of loss history, hazards, controls, and key risk differential features.
  • Prepares objective written reports that evaluate and grade accounts in comparison to other like businesses, meeting report quality, productivity, and timeliness goals per company standards.
  • Conducts regular service calls to assist policyholders with risk control efforts, helping establish effective hazard controls and submitting recommendations for account improvement conforming to company and applicable consensus standards.
  • Utilizes technical resources such as M. Best, NFPA, OSHA, and DOT effectively.
  • Maintains and distributes safety literature and supplies to current and prospective insureds.
  • Studies safety magazines, publications, and company directives to stay informed.
  • Assists in safety meetings and/or supervisory training sessions at policyholder locations.
  • Develops in-depth knowledge of insureds’ needs by investigating exposures and hazards across all lines of coverage.
  • Maintains contacts with agency personnel in the assigned territory.
  • Actively participates in personal developmental activities to expand technical knowledge and stay current on industry topics, including seeking learning opportunities outside of technical expertise.
  • Available to travel throughout the assigned territory and occasionally to other territories as needed.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record to operate a corporate vehicle.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A college degree from an accredited institution with a Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Engineering, Science, or other acceptable curriculum (or equivalent).
  • Ten years of experience in risk control with a multi-line insurance company.
  • CSP, ALCM, CFPS, or similar professional designations are preferred.
  • Ability to work well with policyholders, prospects, agents, and company personnel.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong PC skills.
  • Good working knowledge of all applicable codes and standards.
  • Proficiency in handling basic industrial hygiene monitoring equipment, specifically dosimeters.

  • Current Acuity Risk Control Consultants must maintain above-average productivity, quality, and timeliness for at least the past two years.
