Senior Revenue Accountant (SaaS - Financial Services)
About the role
Mission — Why We Need You Every number in our financial statements represents a promise kept — to auditors, to investors, to the leadership team making decisions off of it. As Senior Revenue Accountant, you'll be the person who makes sure that promise holds on our most complex, highest-risk terrain: revenue. This role exists because our accounting function is scaling, and we need a technical owner who can take full accountability for revenue recognition and relieve leadership as the sole point of accountability on our highest-risk, named audit-focus control. At Continuous, we make complex simple for financial institutions — and we need someone who can bring that same clarity to our own financial story. You'll own ASC 606 revenue recognition end-to-end, the deferred revenue subledger (including license/maintenance carve-outs and SSP judgments), GL standards enforcement for revenue accounts, and audit-ready journal entry preparation. Beyond the technical ownership, you'll own the ARR Snowball and MRR-to-deferred reconciliation that let accounting — not FP&A — own actuals and variance, month over month.
Objectives
- You'll join the Accounting Team, reporting directly to the Controller, as the technical owner of revenue accounting.
- You'll own ASC 606 revenue recognition, the deferred revenue subledger, GL coding standards for revenue accounts, audit-ready JE preparation, and the ongoing ownership of our ARR/MRR reporting infrastructure, while working closely with the accounting team on process automation and documentation.
- Revenue Recognition & Deferred Revenue. You'll own ASC 606 application end-to-end — from contract review through recognition — including license/maintenance carve-outs and the standalone selling price (SSP) judgments that underpin them.
- GL Standards & Journal Entries. You'll set and enforce coding policy for revenue accounts across the GL, and prepare journal entries with full, audit-ready supporting documentation as a matter of course — not as a special exercise for audit season.
- Automation & Process Improvement. Working closely with the accounting team, you'll lead the design of AI-assisted workflows and documented process flows for revenue accounting — using tools like Pigment and Claude to build resilience into the function, not just efficiency.
- Audit Readiness. You'll carry primary accountability for Audit readiness on revenue-side accounts, and you'll own the named control.
- ARR/MRR Reporting & FP&A Partnership. You'll own the MRR-to-deferred-revenue reconciliation and the ARR Snowball, giving the business a clean, accounting-owned view of recurring revenue actuals. From there, you'll take ownership of monthly actuals and variance reporting — work currently sitting with FP&A — and partner directly with the FP&A team on forecast-to-budget alignment, so accounting and FP&A are working from one source of truth rather than two.
Competencies
- Technical Revenue Accounting Mastery — Deep, hands-on ASC 606 expertise: multi-element arrangements, SSP analysis, variable consideration, contract modifications. You don't just apply the standard — you can defend the judgment behind it.
- Audit & Controls Ownership — You treat "audit-ready" as a daily standard, not a year-end scramble. You understand what it means to own a named, high-risk control and you take that accountability seriously.
- Analytical Mindset — Data-driven and pattern-oriented; you build the ARR Snowball and reconciliations that turn raw numbers into a reliable, defensible story.
- Systems Thinking — You see technology and automation as a force multiplier, not a threat — building agent-assisted workflows that make the function more resilient, not just faster.
- Precision as a Practice — You build systems that prevent errors before they happen. Every reconciling item, every JE attachment, every SSP judgment is documented so it holds up under scrutiny.
- Strategic Business Partnership — You connect revenue accounting to the broader business story, partnering fluently with FP&A, Sales, and Legal rather than working in a silo.
- Trusted Steward — You handle sensitive financial information and judgment calls with discretion, and you're comfortable being the named owner of our highest-risk control.
