Senior Revenue Accountant

About the role
The Senior Revenue Accountant’s primary responsibility is ensuring the Company’s revenue recognition is in compliance with US GAAP and Company policies, while leaning heavily into AI-driven automation to enhance process efficiency and scalability. The role is both advisory and operational, helping business partners make informed decisions while managing complex accounting processes—including token-based usage and evolving AI-related revenue streams—through the adoption of innovative, automated tools.
Responsibilities
- Participates in accounting close activities, including:
- Leverage AI and automation tools to streamline close processes (e.g., flux analysis automation, enhancing reconciliations, automating large datasets)
- Partner with other teams (legal, sales, etc.) to interpret, research, discuss, and/or process deal reviews
- Complete contract accounting of executed customer contracts
- Preparation/review of journal entries
- Preparation/review of reconciliations and related financial analysis for management and external reporting
- Participates in Company-wide AI-driven initiatives and cross-functional projects that directly impact or relate to the revenue accounting area, particularly increasing revenue analytical capabilities
- Proactively identify and implement AI-driven automation solutions to transform revenue accounting workflows, prioritizing process efficiency, scalability, and reduction of manual effort
- Adopt a "clean sheet" methodology to evaluate operational processes, specifically leveraging generative AI and advanced automation tools to streamline complex tasks and enhance overall accuracy
- Stay current on the latest financial accounting and reporting developments and U.S. GAAP reporting requirements
- Mentor and support junior members of the team and provide feedback
- Communicate problems to senior management in a timely manner
- Present findings and solutions to the management team, considering global impacts and subsequent guidance to influence other regions where appropriate to adopt consistent processes and policies
- Establish and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Prepare schedules in support of the external audit process while utilizing AI capabilities to streamline workbooks
- Coordinate with auditors on accounting issues and audit-related queries
- Review and maintain controls as the business environment changes due to process, system, and policy enhancements, including risk assessment and review of risk areas
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, or advanced experience
- Active CPA
- Accounting/audit firm experience preferred
- 4+ years of experience in accounting roles
- Proven ability to leverage AI and automation tools to drive process efficiencies, data analysis, and workflow improvements
- Strong understanding of revenue accounting rules under ASC 606
- Experience working with revenue-related systems such as billing systems, ERP, and revenue recognition tools/subledgers
- Revenue accounting for SaaS revenue recognition and understanding of multi-element arrangements
- Ability to work effectively with various departments, particularly Sales
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under time constraints and deadlines
- Meticulous, detail-oriented, and organized
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently, yet cooperatively and constructively in a team environment
- Highly proficient in advanced MS Excel
Pay
Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.
- San Francisco: Estimated Base salary $131,000 - $180,000
- New York: Estimated Base salary $126,000 - $173,000
This role is eligible to participate in Cloudflare’s equity plan.
