Senior Resident Engineer
About the role
We are seeking a Senior Resident Engineer with 10+ years of experience in field engineering or construction supervision experience on large-scale tunneling, rail, or heavy civil projects. The Senior Resident Engineer will provide leadership and technical oversight of field engineering and construction activities. This role ensures that all contractor work aligns with contract documents, technical provisions, safety, quality, environmental, and interface requirements.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily field engineering operations, including layout, surveys, instrumentation, and alignment checks.
- Interpret and enforce contract drawings, specifications, and technical provisions; review and approve contractor submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs.
- Lead resolution of Nonconformance Reports (NCRs); verify corrective actions and update as-built records.
- Collaborate with Change Manager to evaluate field-level change requests, assess impacts on scope, cost, schedule, and regulatory commitments.
- Conduct regular site inspections to confirm compliance with the Construction Environmental Control Plan (CECP), Safety and Security Management Plan (SSMP), and Quality Management Plan (QMP).
- Coordinate materials testing and inspection activities, witness field tests, and liaise with independent laboratories to validate results.
- Oversee interface coordination on site—facilitate clash mitigation, schedule sequencing, and stakeholder communication.
- Mentor and supervise field engineering staff, inspectors, and survey teams; ensure accurate documentation of daily logs, checklists, and field diaries.
- Support commissioning and rail activation planning by verifying field readiness, system alignments, and testing protocols.
- Drive punch-list close-out: confirm completion of outstanding items, secure completion certificates, and finalize handover documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- 10+ years of field engineering or construction supervision experience on large-scale tunneling, rail, or heavy civil projects.
- 5+ years in a senior resident engineer or equivalent role.

- Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or NICET Level III/IV in relevant disciplines.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification.
- Optional: PMP, Prosci Change Management, or specialized BIM certification.
- Deep understanding of NEPA, FTA, FRA, Buy America, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
- Proven expertise with PMIS platforms, BIM coordination, and field survey instruments.
- Ability to navigate construction sites, including climbing stairs or accessing unfinished spaces, when required for estimate development.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30lbs.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, vests, and steel-toed boots, for prolonged periods.
