About the role
The Microbiology Pathology Research Collaborative investigates novel diagnostic methods for infectious disease. This position performs research study experiments, prepares materials, executes laboratory procedures, and documents in accordance with local, state, and federal clinical research requirements.
Responsibilities
- Performs complex analysis/procedures according to research protocols, including specimen processing, instrument maintenance, and explains methods and procedures to other technicians.
- Performs microorganism culture, using aseptic technique.
- Enters data and maintains current data files on research projects.
- Maintains consistency in data quality.
- May perform preliminary statistical analysis of data.
- Affirms compliance with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions, including lab supply inventory.
- Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
- Assists in the training and development of technicians, acting as a group leader.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Works in a biosafety level 2 laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
- Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research animals.
Education
Required Qualifications: Master’s degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education.
