About the Role

The Senior Research Support Specialist will provide a broader range of complex laboratory and research-related tasks under general supervision in support of a research project or program for Dr. Raymond Bergan in the Stony Brook Cancer Center. The role involves operating equipment, carrying out test procedures, collating and interpreting data using special methods, and working collaboratively with faculty and professionals to advance project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, monitor, coordinate, and manage activities to maintain effective operation of the program.
  • Conduct experiments and provide research support by performing tests using specialized methods for data collection and interpretation.
  • Work collaboratively with employees, faculty, and professionals to advance project goals.
  • Observe, collect, and analyze data; write summary reports as necessary.
  • Prepare reports, drafts, and/or manuscripts based on collected data.
  • May develop and maintain databases.
  • Orient and train students and volunteers; check the work of less experienced employees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of full-time biological science research experience within a research laboratory.
  • Experience using advanced research equipment, including but not limited to Optical cell plate reader, Quantitative PCR, and/or Confocal microscopy.
  • Experience performing bench lab experiments, including Western Blot and working with human cells in culture.
  • Experience with rat/mouse animal handling skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Experience with cancer cell metastasis-related projects.

Pay

$52,000–$68,000 per year.

Schedule

Full-time.
