Responsibilities
- Lead applied research on healthcare utilization, medical costs, disability, and other policy-relevant topics.
- Design, manage, and analyze administrative claims data and other large datasets.
- Develop research questions, design methodology, and guide analytic approaches.
- Draft reports, presentations, and research products; lead development of Tableau dashboards.
- Coincide with CWCI staff, members, and industry leaders to gather input on research scope and deliverables.
- Present findings publicly and participate in CWCI Claims and Medical Care standing committees.
Qualifications
- Graduate degree in economics, statistics, actuarial science, public policy, public health, health services research, data analytics, or a related field; at least five years of experience in applied research, health data analysis, public policy, or a related area;
- Demonstrated ability to independently develop research questions and analytic approaches;
- Strong project management skills with large or complex datasets;
- Experience with SQL, SAS, R, or Python, advanced Excel, and Tableau;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience with healthcare, disability, insurance, or administrative claims data, including medical billing and procedure coding;
- Knowledge of the California workers’ compensation system;
- Record of translating analysis into reports or presentations for policy, business, regulatory, or industry audiences;
- Experience working with industry or stakeholder groups.

Pay
Salary range: $135,000 to $155,000, commensurate with experience.
Schedule
Full-time Oakland, CA office, with potential for hybrid work.
