About the role

The Chiang lab at USC is seeking a Senior Research Associate to join our team. Our lab uses cutting-edge analytic tools to address questions at the intersection of human medical and population genetics. We are particularly interested in using genomic data to understand the evolution and architecture of complex traits and the history of diverse human populations. This position offers substantial input in shaping ongoing research projects, including method development and analysis of large-scale genotyping, next-generation sequencing, and multi-omic data.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and execution of research projects aligned with the lab's research interests and funded grants.
  • Collaborate with other researchers to develop and apply new analytical techniques.
  • Assist in training and mentoring students and junior researchers.
  • Participate in the broader research community through presentations and publications.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in genetics, computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in human genetics or population genetics research in Unix-based computing environments.
  • At least 18 months of post-doctoral experience.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C++, R).

Qualifications

  • Strong background in genetics, population genetics, or related fields.
  • Experience with genomic data analysis and interpretation.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in statistical and computational methods.
  • Experience with bioinformatics software and databases.
  • Knowledge of human genetics and population genetics.

Benefits

The position offers a competitive salary range of $76,675.67 - $90,000, commensurate with prior experience and relevant expertise. The successful candidate will be based in the greater Los Angeles area, with some flexibility for remote work.

Pay

$76,675.67 - $90,000 annually

Schedule

This is a full-time position with a longer-term commitment, contingent upon project progress.
