Senior Reporter
About the role
Quartz is seeking a Senior Reporter to join its newsroom, focusing on U.S. business news. This role requires 7-10 years of experience in a high-pressure, daily newsroom, with a strong background in U.S. business news and a sophistication in covering technology and markets.
Responsibilities
- Identify and execute high-value enterprise stories, profiles of industry disruptors, narrative features, and other high-impact business stories.
- Exercise sound news judgment around sourcing, framing, and risk, escalating sensitive or complex stories appropriately.
- Generate and pitch original story ideas rooted in deep reporting, not just reactive coverage.
- Distill complex business topics into compelling, human-centric narratives that resonate with a global audience of decision-makers.
- Build and maintain a robust network of sources to provide "inside the room" perspective on the companies and trends shaping the economy.
- Partner with senior editors and seasoned features writers to develop long-term reporting projects while maintaining a consistent cadence of ambitious individual work.
- Balance long-term enterprise projects with timely reporting when editorial judgment calls for speed.
- Represent Quartz as a leading voice in business journalism, appearing on podcasts, in our newsletters, and elsewhere to provide expert analysis.
