Senior Registered Nurse- Vascular Access
About the role
The RN coordinates patient care delivery for a specific patient population or specific health conditions, using the nursing process. They assess patients, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate patient responses. The role requires the RN to utilize knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to facilitate smooth transitions between encounters.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a patient advocate by focusing on patient needs, rights, confidentiality, and cultural preferences.
- Provides patient care educational information and training to patients and family members in the Radiology Department.
- Maintains and implements knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines impacting Radiology nursing practice.
- Develops internal controls promoting adherence to relevant laws and accreditation agency requirements.
- Maintains and updates knowledge of sanitation, infection control, safety, supplies, equipment, and materials.
- Performs appropriate patient assessments, including continuous surveillance.
- Participates in Universal Protocol and site marking identification.
- Recognizes and manages changes in patient condition, providing appropriate interventions.
- Consults with other team members as required, notifies providers of changes, and implements orders promptly.
- Exercises independent judgment in providing and prioritizing safe nursing care to patients.
- Manages radiology patients with varied medical conditions.
- Administers sedation and analgesia, physiologically monitors patients, and documents interventions accurately.
- Works with other staff to direct non-nursing staff and prepares in-service educational programs annually.
- Improves work processes and patient/customer satisfaction by identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes.
- May serve on various unit and interdisciplinary committees.
- Anticipates and responds proactively to the needs of patients, their families, physicians, and coworkers.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with all Parkland internal and external customers, employees, etc.
- Stays informed about the latest developments in radiology nursing practice and integrates new knowledge into current work practices.
Requirements
Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Prefer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Must have two years of nursing experience, preferably in acute care, critical care, or Radiology settings. Must hold a current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing, or a valid Compact RN license. Must also have current healthcare provider BLS for Healthcare Providers certification and either Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
