Senior Reference Librarian, Systems and Electronic Resources Librarian

About the role

The Systems & Electronic Resources Librarian serves as a member of the Reference Services Department, essential to sustaining Bentley’s investment in electronic scholarly resources, including e-books, e-journals, databases, and streaming media. This role leads the implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of library technologies and systems, develops best practices for assessing collections and improving patron research experiences, and maximizes discovery for users of Bentley University’s ALMA/Primo environment. The position manages metadata for electronic resources and ensures consistent access to the library’s electronic resources and services.

The Systems & Electronic Resources Librarian collaborates with Reference Services staff, library team members, university IT partners (including the Project Management Office), vendors, faculty, students, and consortium partners to provide cost-effective solutions for electronic library services across New England.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and optimize library systems related to in-house and consortia activities, including the integrated library system, discovery layer, electronic resource management tool, digital collections platform, interlibrary loan applications, institutional repository, and other resource-sharing tools.
• Ensure accessibility and stability of the library's online information resources and digital collections, providing technical expertise for problem resolution.
• Collaborate with IT and library staff to ensure seamless service to users.
• Coordinate the selection and integration of electronic resources, with input from the Manager of Reference Services.
• Represent Bentley University in the Boston Library Consortium and its Communities of Practice—Alma/Primo and Network Zone Collections and/or Discovery.
• Provide reference desk services as needed.

Requirements

• Master of Library Science (MLS), Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS), Master of Information Science (MIS), or an equivalent library and information science degree.
• 3–5 years of experience supporting an integrated library system, platforms, and software in an academic library setting.
• Experience with library-specific software (e.g., Alma/Primo VE, Primo NDE, OCLC Connexion).
• Experience supporting web-based content management systems and products from vendors such as Springshare (e.g., LibGuides and LibAnswers).
• Familiarity with library technology standards and protocols such as RDA and FRBR.
• Familiarity with cloud-based identity and access management service authentication software such as EZProxy.
• Familiarity with image-based or text-based digital repositories (e.g., Digital Commons).
• Understanding of library and web technologies, including EZproxy, HTML, CSS, database design tools, SQL, Photoshop, JSON, and Excel.
• Experience with or demonstrated commitment to developing inclusive and equitable learning experiences.
• Experience in an academic setting demonstrating excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently, within a team environment, and with diverse groups.

Work Environment

• Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work.
• Ability to travel around campus for meetings and work-related events.

Pay

Salary Grade Range: $67,960 - $113,126 per year. Final pay will depend on experience, education, and other relevant qualifications.
