Responsibilities

  • Develop technical specifications and conceptual designs for the new and upgraded rail vehicles and the on-board systems.
  • Participate in the design review meetings and technical working sessions with the carbuilders and equipment suppliers.
  • Review electrical and electro-mechanical designs, prepare detailed descriptions of review findings.
  • Direct and/or participate in the new equipment qualification efforts at supplier facilities and on the trains including functional testing, electrical performance, environmental, and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Prepare and/or review rail vehicle and vehicle on-board systems test procedures.
  • Hands-on engineering work with the rail transit vehicles, including testing, investigations of equipment malfunctions, and condition assessments.
  • Mentor and educate junior engineers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the rail vehicle electrical systems (Streetcars, LRVs, Heavy Rail Transit Cars, Commuter Cars, Locomotives) design and maintenance.
  • Transit Authority engineering and maintenance experience is a plus.
  • Must have working knowledge of core electrical engineering concepts (analog/digital circuit design, power engineering, networking/telecommunications, AC/DC motor theory, control systems, and software development).
  • Familiarity with the APTA, FRA, IEEE, IEC/EN, NFPA, and other industry standards related to rail vehicle design is expected.
  • Must possess excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills, and work well in a team.
  • PE registration is desirable but not required.
  • Both domestic and foreign travel is required.

Pay

Base Compensation: $210,000 - $230,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
