Senior Rail Systems Lead
About the role
The Senior Rail Systems Lead will work collaboratively with a team of engineers and specialists across rail systems disciplines, including Project Managers, Systems Engineers, Signals Engineers, and Rail Operations Analysts. Responsibilities include leading design and specification development, overseeing detailed calculations and technical specifications, and providing leadership and mentorship to mid-career staff.
Responsibilities
- Lead design and specification development of specialties such as Systems Integration, SCADA, Communications, Trackwork, Signaling, Train Control, Systems Assurance (RAM), Safety Assurance, Vehicle and Wayside Interfaces, Traction Power Design, Power Supply and Distribution, System and Train Simulation, Tunnel Constructability, and Fire Ventilation.
- Ensure all design elements comply with relevant Rail Operation Rules, industry codes and standards, and client expectations.
- Provide valuable leadership to mid-career staff and mentoring to develop their technical skills.
- Interact with clients to discuss technical topics in a clear and professional manner.
- Facilitate resolution of customer expectations versus technical issues.
- Work with tight schedules and motivate project teams.
- Plan and execute project work based on an understanding of the project scope, schedule, and budget.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field + 10 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Massachusetts or ability to obtain reciprocity.
- 15 years of experience in the design and management of complex multidisciplinary rail system projects.
- Experience on design management responsibility, including management of design services during design and construction.
- Technical competence in all elements of transit/rail systems engineering.
- Familiarity with Systems Engineering standards.
- Understanding of the System Safety Certification processes and RAMS.
- Knowledge of signaling principles, train control solutions including CBTC (moving block or fixed block) and PTC, and railway standards such as CENELEC, AREMA and MIL-STD.
- Strong communication skills, presentation skills, and report writing skills.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $210000 to $225000 per year.
