Senior Rackets Investigator
Job Summary
The Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor (SNP) seeks applicants for the position of Senior Rackets Investigator in the Detective Investigations Unit. This role involves supervising Rackets Investigators in securing and verifying facts for criminal proceedings and legislative action.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist investigators and Assistant District Attorneys in preparing material for trial.
- Conduct surveillance, monitor court-authorized wire taps, examine business records, collect evidence, and participate in sensitive undercover operations.
- Prepare reports and maintain necessary records of activities.
- Perform related work and all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Prior law enforcement or criminal justice experience related to organized crimes, narcotics trafficking, and financial crimes.
- Extensive knowledge of laws relating to criminal violations.
- Valid NYS driver’s license and U.S. citizenship required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal skills.
- Pass a medical exam, drug test, physical and psychological fitness exams, and an intensive background check.
Prior Experience
- Full-time, paid experience in rackets or police investigative work for at least one year.
- Educational equivalency to the above requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current NYS Police Officer certification.
- Bachelor's Degree.
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and three years of full-time, paid experience in police enforcement or investigative work, one year of which must be in rackets or police investigative work.
- Equivalent education and experience to the above requirements.
Additional Requirements
- Critical thinking skills and strong research abilities.
- A valid NYS driver’s license.
- To be eligible for residency, must reside in New York City within 90 days of appointment or meet certain criteria for Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
- Ability to work flexible hours and perform overtime as directed.
