About the role

We are seeking a Senior Research and Development Engineer to lead the development of embedded software for FANUC's robot controller system. This includes the creation of new features and support for legacy products. Tasks may involve working with real-time operating systems, file systems, user program execution environments, multi-CPU and multi-core architectures, and various web technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop embedded software within a real-time operating system environment in areas such as file systems, user program execution environment, multi-CPU and multi-core architecture, user interface technologies (HTML5, JavaScript, COMET, REST, WebGL), memory management, system logging/profiling, system and network security, and adherence to established coding standards.
  • Specify, design, and implement software developments or enhancements to existing products, updating and modifying design and engineering documentation as necessary.
  • Develop and implement software tests and test procedures, and prepare software feature documentation for publication with the Product Information group.
  • Resolve field-reported problems, often of a complex or unique nature, and communicate with FANUC Japan and other engineering staff on product development and customer support issues.
  • Present proposed software feature concepts to the selling division and select customers, and mentor junior engineering staff and software development interns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Minimum ten years of experience in an embedded software development role.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is preferred.
  • Strong FANUC robot experience, including KAREL, is desired.
  • Experience with source control tools like ClearCase and Git is beneficial.
  • Robotic application experience is advantageous.
