Senior R&D Design Engineer

About the Role

Apply specific technological expertise to projects, including Heat Transfer, Hydraulic Network Design, Sheet Metal Design, Weldment Design, and more. Perform analysis and simulations to validate design specifications and performance using tools like Flow Network Modeling, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and Finite Element Analysis. Ensure ASME compliance for piping and pressure vessels, and stay updated on industry advancements for critical components in data center cooling units.

Responsibilities

• Design and write test specifications and protocols, coordinate testing in a world-class laboratory facility, and review test reports for accuracy.
• Work with Designers to ensure designs meet customer requirements, are optimized for manufacturability, and incorporate standard processes.
• Collaborate with PMO, operations, manufacturing engineers, and quality engineers to simplify designs, improve manufacturability, and ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.
• Specify purchased part requirements and work with Supply Leaders to source parts for use in designs.
• Work with multi-functional engineering and design teams to launch standard and custom products, from market specifications to prototype to production.
• Partner with Sales and Marketing to engage with customers, industry partnerships, and other relationships to advance product and technology reach.
• Lead prototyping efforts with hands-on support as needed.
• Direct outside test activities, including regulatory and third-party testing.
• Work with outside vendors to develop designs and related technologies.
• Continuously improve processes, enhance collaboration, reduce risk, and shorten product development cycle time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or related engineering field required.
• Ideally 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• Knowledge in hydronic/water pumping, heat transfer, and fluid flow for cooling/heating systems.
• Knowledge of ASME BPV design and applications, AWS and ISO standards, and ASME Section IX or equivalent certification is a plus.
• Experience with electrical schematics and component selection preferred.
• Ability to read, understand, and translate customer and industry specifications into design content.
• Experience in design and failure analysis tools such as DFMEA, DFM, RCCM, etc.
• Proficiency in designing components and assemblies using 3D CAD system SolidWorks.
• Experience in NPI Stage Gate process and ERP system is a plus.
• Machine Design experience is highly preferred.

Job Type: Direct Hire
Compensation: $100,000 - $140,000 / yr
Travel: Up to 10% domestic travel as needed.
