About the Role

BNY is seeking a Senior Python Developer to join a team building a next-generation real-time risk platform on a microservices architecture. This role focuses on developing end-to-end applications across the full stack, with a strong emphasis on Python backend development, Angular front-end engineering, and real-time, data-intensive systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Python, REST APIs, Angular, Oracle, WebSockets, Kafka, and Hazelcast, and will be comfortable building scalable, resilient solutions from backend services and data pipelines through to responsive user interfaces. This role is based in New York, NY and requires 4-days onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Full Stack Application Development: Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications using Python on the backend and Angular on the front end, delivering complete features end to end.
  • Backend API Engineering: Build and enhance RESTful APIs using Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django to support internal and external integrations.
  • Real-Time Communication: Develop low-latency, real-time communication capabilities using WebSockets to stream data efficiently to front-end clients.
  • Event-Driven Architecture: Implement messaging workflows and event-driven application patterns using Kafka to support scalable and resilient service interactions.
  • Distributed Caching & In-Memory Data Management: Use Hazelcast for distributed caching, clustering, and in-memory data management, including integration of Python services with Hazelcast clusters.
  • Database Development & Optimization: Develop and optimize interactions with Oracle Database, including query design, performance tuning, data access patterns, and support for data pipeline workflows.
  • Front-End Engineering: Build responsive, reusable, and user-friendly Angular components with strong attention to performance, maintainability, and cross-browser compatibility.
  • System Integration: Integrate Angular-based front-end applications with Python backend services to ensure seamless data flow, responsive behavior, and real-time updates.
  • Data Processing & Transformation: Develop computational services, transformation logic, and data pipelines in Python to support risk platform functionality and data-intensive workflows.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with architects, product managers, QA teams, quant developers, and fellow engineers to deliver cohesive, scalable, and secure end-to-end solutions.
  • Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis: Diagnose issues across the full stack, including UI, API, messaging, and database layers, and implement durable fixes.
  • Engineering Standards & Code Quality: Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to software engineering best practices, coding standards, testing approaches, and maintainability expectations.
  • System Design Contributions: Contribute to architecture and design discussions related to scalability, resiliency, security, observability, and performance across all application tiers.
  • Testing & Documentation: Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code aligned to Test Driven Development (TDD) practices and maintain technical documentation for applications, APIs, components, and deployment processes.
