About the role

Our new state-of-the-art facility in Charleston, SC manufactures high-voltage subsea and land cables that bring power from offshore wind farms to land. The Site Purchasing Team Member will oversee purchasing strategies and savings in the main categories, acting as an efficient link across functions and teams. This role is responsible for local site purchasing and vendor management, including reassessment of needs, RFI/RFQ launch, contract design, implementation, and continuous improvement monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Support the definition of category strategy for Business Units, ensuring alignment with group vision and practices.
  • Serve as the level 1 escalation point for PSS operations at the site, responsible for purchasing performance and implementation of procurement strategies for purchases over $250,000.
  • Implement Nexans processes, standard purchasing, and transversal Group Purchasing initiatives.
  • Identify and reduce purchasing-related risks, challenge need expressions, and consolidate needs at appropriate levels (global/local).
  • Support the creation of functional specifications and decision matrices for RFIs/RFQs.
  • Lead supplier negotiations to select the best options, considering cost, planning, quality, and reputation.
  • Manage contracts, including customization, deployment, and performance evaluation.
  • Contribute to claims mitigation and supplier market analysis, providing local supplier insights.
  • Analyze market trends, establish benchmarks, and identify cost structures for solutions.
  • Propose alternative supplier solutions and maintain a competitive supplier panel.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including the central purchasing group and BPO positions.
  • Provide reports to plant/site managers and the Group Purchasing Department on purchasing activities and performance.
  • Adhere to Nexans Corporate Purchasing Rules (POM) and General Management Procedures (GMP).
  • Use negotiation tools and evaluation templates (e.g., TCO matrix) to assess offers during RFQs.
  • Achieve yearly KPI targets, such as savings on P&L, cost avoidance, e-auctions, CSR scorecards, etc.
  • Ensure supply chain compliance with CSR expectations and promote fair supplier competition.
  • Lead the competitiveness program for assigned plants and track YTD/YEO results.
  • Run category strategy processes and establish purchasing savings budgets to meet objectives.
  • Coordinate with all sites and the central team, applying the control tower and Decision Gate processes.
  • Provide timely supplier information (e.g., cost variations, deviations) to tender and project teams.
  • Maintain valid frame agreements with detailed costs and options for call-offs.
  • Obtain at least 3 compliant offers to avoid single-source situations for purchases over $50,000.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • 1–5 years of purchasing experience.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written).
  • Competitive, positive mindset with a results-oriented approach.
  • Advanced Excel analysis skills.
  • Cohesive, adaptive, and collaborative team player.
  • Experience with SAP and Ariba preferred.
