Senior Publicity Manager
About the role
Little, Brown & Company, a division of Hachette Book Group, seeks a Sr. Publicity Manager to join a very active department within a dynamic, renowned publishing program. This is a unique opportunity to work on a highly focused team and publicize a list of exciting and diverse books and authors—from award-winning and bestselling authors to debut authors—across genres including literary and commercial fiction, nonfiction, mystery, and lifestyle books.
Responsibilities
- Publicize approximately 15 titles per season (30 titles per year) for Little, Brown and Company and its imprints, executing all aspects of publicity campaigns including managing author tours, booking national and local media, overseeing travel arrangements, and producing events.
- Develop and maintain close working relationships with members of the press (broadcast, radio, print, online, trades, etc.), seek out new media outlets, and brainstorm creative ideas to best publicize titles.
- Work closely with authors on all aspects of publicity, including briefing authors for interviews and accompanying authors to publicity engagements.
- Strategize media lists, create press materials (full press kits, press releases, pitch and galley letters, author Q&As, talking points, etc.), and pitch media.
- Collaborate with key in-house departments, including Marketing, Sales, Editorial, and Subsidiary Rights.
- Develop and maintain relationships with booksellers around the country, as well as off-site and lecture event venues and book festivals.
- Supervise and provide guidance to one direct report, with potential for more managerial duties in the near future.
- Plan and execute author appearances and details for Regional Trade Shows, author pre-sell events, and book tours.
- Additional department duties may include liaising with the Hachette Speakers Bureau, supervising weekly press hits memo, helping to curate and submit literary awards, and liaising with the sales team on author event requests.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 years' experience in publicity.
- Strong knowledge of national and regional media (electronic and print), with strong established relationships with key media bookers.
- Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of the media, marketplace, and competition.
- Established relationships with bookstores and some large lecture venues.
- Ability to escort authors by car, train, or plane as needed, and ability to travel domestically with authors when needed.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Familiarity with Cision, Net Galley, and Edelweiss.
Pay
The compensation range for this position is $75,000 – $95,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location—talk with your recruiter to learn more.
Schedule
There may be times that you will be required or requested to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
