About the role

The Senior Public Health Nutritionist Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of staff, including appraisals, planning and directing work, approving leave, and hiring and taking disciplinary action. This position supports the Florida Department of Health in Polk County's mission to protect, promote, and improve the health of all people in Florida.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the WIC program in Auburndale.
• Supervise subordinate staff.
• Interview potential subordinate employees and recommend their hire.
• Train new employees according to local, state, and federal rules and guidelines.
• Train new HST/HSS employees regarding the agency’s blood borne pathogen policy and procedures; immunization schedule; correct methods for taking anthropometric measurements, and referral to health care.
• Evaluate employees according to previously determined standards, meeting state-imposed deadlines.
• Plan site schedule of subordinate employees.
• Recognize and reward high performing employees; discipline employees as necessary.
• Communicate with employees on a regular basis and use team building skills to motivate and guide the team to improved performance.
• Take and resolve client complaints, ensuring customer satisfaction as much as possible.
• Ensure the accurate completion of all inventories, purchasing requirements, and p-card transactions according to local, state, and federal guidelines.
• Work closely with health care professionals to provide an integrated approach to nutrition and health care; coordinate nutrition services at the WIC site with other health services.
• Help to develop quality improvement (QI) tools, participate in quality improvement activities, present the information to subordinate staff, and make changes in clinic policies and procedures as appropriate based on QI findings.
• Prepare and approve purchasing and purchasing requests.
• Comply with all Department of Health and WIC security and confidentiality rules and requirements.
• Serve as the Information Custodian of assigned Information Sets; maintain the confidentiality of the information in accordance with state and federal statutes, rules, regulations and Department of Health Information Security Policies, Protocols and Procedures, in accordance with Protocol: Security – 3, V, Sec 1-3.
• Serve as the designated staff person in charge of voter registration activities within their clinic site.
• Perform heights, weights, and hemoglobin for potentially eligible WIC participants, documenting these in client records.
• Counsel clients about immunizations, use of car seats and basic health information.
• Refer clients for comprehensive health care as necessary.
• Complete the medical history, nutrition history, and breastfeeding assessment for WIC clients.
• Develop, monitor, evaluate, and revise nutrition care plans for high risk, medially high risk and low risk WIC clients and provide/documents nutrition and breastfeeding counseling according to all local, state and federal guidelines.
• Certify eligible clients for participation in the WIC program by determining and assigning correct nutrition risk per program policies.
• Assign/Update client food prescriptions according to program regulations.
• Provide nutrition programs and outreach to health care professionals and members of the community.
• Provide classes and group nutrition education per class lesson plans with appropriate documentation.
• Ensure that clients receive the required number of nutrition education contacts.
• Complete administrative forms such as EARs, time sheets, and travel per department policies and required deadlines.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-service trainings, and other staff development activities.

Qualifications

• Valid Florida Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
• Bachelor’s degree (or a master’s degree or higher) from an accredited college or university with the major course of study in Public Health Nutrition, Dietetics, Clinical Nutrition, Community Nutrition, or Nutritional Sciences.
• Licensure as a dietitian/nutritionist (LD/N) with the State of Florida - Dietitians & Nutritionists, Chapter 468, Part X.

Pay

$60,000 - $63,902 annually

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
