Senior Public Engagement & Communications Specialist

This opportunity entails being responsible for participating in the coordination and implementation of public engagement and involvement programs for infrastructure projects. This position plays a role in the development of communication strategies including materials, and digital and print content. Researches, gathers data, and creates project messaging resources to educate the community. This position will also participate in the development of digital strategies and key performance indicators for the purpose of tracking accomplishments and milestones.
Responsibilities
- Develops and helps implement effective dissemination of outreach materials, facts and information on project messaging and supports client activities to stakeholders according to the public outreach plan including external agencies, associations, and news organizations using print, periodicals, radio, social and/or visual communication media.
- Reviews and refines records and reports related to public involvement meetings, forums and public hearings as well as tracks social engagement and other digital strategies as needed.
- Drafts speeches, creates and designs presentation materials, prepares remarks, briefing documents and/or composes correspondence for use in mailings, meetings, workshops and other public events.
- Responsible for initial fact checking for reports, articles, and other publications.
- Develops and implements digital strategies for use on web-based communications, including but not limited to websites and social channels.
- Helps develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and reviews draft reports to indicate a campaign's milestones.
- Supports coordination efforts for public meetings and engagements to best support outreach and initiative goals.
- Interacts with clients to coordinate implementation of communication programs and goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Marketing, Communications, English, Journalism or related field and 6 years of relevant experience, or
- In lieu of education, 10 years of relevant experience
Skills
- Assisting with social media (e.g., monitoring, content development and assisting with strategy) and providing direction to less-experienced staff.
- Supporting development of materials and documents in Adobe products (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign, InCopy), and Microsoft products (specifically PowerPoint formatting, consistency, and editing templates) and reviewing work of less-experienced staff.
- Monitoring stakeholder databases, giving direction for updates and creation of new databases.
- Providing direction and guidance for research and disseminating information for review.
- Executing the client plan for events and public outreach, reviewing deliverables, and interacting with clients, the public, internal partners, and others.
- Ensuring materials follow client style guide requirements and making judgment calls on style choices.

Pay
The approximate pay range for Virginia is $83,373.48 - $149,965.37. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual's qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
