About the role
Reporting to the Director of Property Accounting, the Senior Property Accountant is responsible for the full-cycle accounting and financial reporting of a portfolio of residential and retail properties. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate financial results, strong cash management, and timely reporting for internal teams.
Responsibilities
- Close the general ledger monthly (GAAP and cash general ledgers) and prepare workpapers.
- Manage daily accounting for a portfolio of four properties.
- Review and approve accounts payable; oversee cash management including bank reconciliations and daily cash balances.
- Process cash receipts and prepare loan draws.
- Collaborate with operations and asset management on property financial activities and ad hoc reports.
- Prepare monthly reporting packages for internal and external use (investor, lender compliance, asset management, and operational reports).
- Manage cash flow projections to meet the cash needs of the portfolio.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and collaborate with the real estate team to ensure accurate and timely information.
- Assist in the annual audit process; manage interim work, issue timely workpapers, audit report templates, and footnotes.
- Assist in the annual RPIE and TC 201 property tax processes.
- Apply skills unique to core job responsibilities for practical integration of sustainability into processes, standard operating procedures, and adopted business practices; empower colleagues, consultants, tenants and residents to prioritize and actively engage in environmental stewardship.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting.
- 5+ years of accounting and relevant asset class industry experience.
- High level of computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with general ledger software (MRI, Yardi, Timberline is a plus).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles.
- Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills to solve problems.
- Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
- Strong knowledge of workpapers, corporate entity & loan structures, and property operations.
- Ability to drive results and meet strict deadlines.
- CPA a plus.
Pay
$95,000 – $125,000 annually
