Senior Project Manager - Transportation

About the role

Join our Des Moines, IA, office and be an integral part of growing our transportation design practice. We are seeking a team-oriented project manager with experience in Iowa DOT and/or local municipal transportation design.

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned project(s) throughout their full lifecycle including developing the scope and technical sections of proposal and procurement documents
• Participate in contract negotiations and oversee the delivery of the project plan
• Proactively manage the budget, schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, and client communications
• Provide high-level technical tasks while managing and reviewing design-related specifications, calculations, reports, and plans
• Coordinate with internal and external partners, including cross-disciplinary and functional teams, to address and problem-solve design-related issues or concerns
• Lead client contract scoping and negotiations
• Perform technical discipline tasks including analysis, reports, design, specification, and production for assigned projects
• Implement the firm’s project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA) on each project
• Lead the development and execution of the project management plan
• Supervise and mentor team to overall project objectives
• Recruit, develop, retain and succeed project staff
• Support performance and compensation reviews
• Prepare proposal and presentation materials
• Lead proposal development and interview presentations for strategic, mini-mega or mega projects
• May be responsible for the recruitment, hiring, development and retention of staff

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
• 12 years of relevant experience
• 4 years of successful management of engineering projects

Qualifications

• Winning, contracting, and successfully delivering 4for4 (on-time, on-budget, quality, client satisfaction) on multi-disciplined or large/complex projects
• Identifying and handling risk and change management independently
• Leading large teams inside and outside of HNTB using sub-consultants
• Using system tools to manage, monitor, and deliver complex projects
• Leading HNTB's Sophisticated processes as applicable to the project
• Serving as the lead interface with the client
• Deploying talent to other projects and developing successors to work with the same client on other work

Skills

• Proficient in Microstation and Geopak
• Experience with Bluebeam Revu
