Senior Project Manager - Sports Venue

About the Role

Diversified is a global leader in audiovisual and media technology, designing and building innovative spaces and experiences for clients across corporate, entertainment, sports, retail, and government sectors. A Senior Project Manager (SPM) is responsible for the scope, schedule, cost, quality, and client satisfaction of a project throughout its entire lifecycle, from Initiating through Closing phases. The PM's role is primarily focused around written and verbal communication to all project stakeholders. The SPM will be assigned the largest, most complex, and sensitive projects, providing direction to a wide range of internal and external personnel, and will also mentor other Project Managers within the company.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and perform project management functions on all Sports Venue projects, budgets, and scopes
• Act as the single point of responsibility and accountability for the project
• Manage project communications, scheduling, task lists for technicians, deliverables from engineering, CAD and Programming, and oversee project completion
• Complete systems integration projects on time, on budget, and achieving high customer satisfaction
• Follow and help improve established Diversified processes
• Serve as the primary interface to the client, developing strong long-term relationships and managing expectations, communications, and satisfaction
• Provide clear leadership and ownership for the project, including accurate and timely verbal and written communication and follow up
• Coordinate all activities associated with timely, accurate, and on-budget project completion, including engaging stakeholders, delegating responsibilities, and running client and internal project meetings
• Provide support and assistance to team members to help them succeed
• Ensure appropriate and frequent communication between stakeholders and resolve destructive conflict
• Design, plan, and coordinate work teams for Sports Venue installation projects
• Establish and maintain communication with Account Executives, Directors, installation technicians, subcontractors, and clients
• Regularly lead a team on large projects
• Develop and communicate project updates as required
• Monitor labor, equipment, and materials budgets constantly
• Provide and direct technical and administrative support to project team members
• Develop and maintain all related project schedules
• Perform field verification of prospective work sites, document issues, and keep stakeholders informed of potential issues and solutions
• Coordinate all drawings and documentation between internal and external stakeholders
• Facilitate and direct design reviews to ensure proper documentation in the field
• Coordinate system programming and final checkout of systems
• Provide punch-list of remaining tasks after substantial completion
• Contract with contractors and other trades when necessary
• Monitor project status including cost, timing, and staffing to ensure timely and accurate completion
• Ensure quality and continuous improvement
• Coordinate training and turnover of projects to client, service department, and sales

Complexity

Every project and set of stakeholders is different. The PM must negotiate a complex set of variables between system design, site conditions, and widely varying expectations with multiple stakeholders. The skill of communicating both verbally and in writing to manage these variables requires a very high level of awareness, emotional intelligence, and people management skills. The PM constantly manages the forces of change in every project environment, balancing schedules, budgets, scope, quality, and client satisfaction.

Decision Making Authority

• Takes full ownership of project
• Acts as the single point of responsibility and accountability for the project
• Ensures schedule performance, quality of solution delivered to client, and client satisfaction
• Manages and reports on the project's financials, including budget performance and profitability
• Ensures timely and correct billings to client
• Demonstrates proactivity, responsiveness, and follow through
• Communicates decision options to stakeholders and manages those decisions
• Manages a complex array of decisions at every point of the project but is rarely the sole decision maker

Physical Working Environment

• May be exposed to construction site conditions on a regular basis
• Responsible for personal safety on job sites and compliance with all safety regulations in place by the General Contractor
• Use of PPE is usually required on job sites
• Typically spends at least 40% of time on feet and mobile around the construction site
• Must have ability to occasionally climb ladders, use stairs, and lift/move materials up to 20 pounds in construction areas
• Regularly required to use keyboards, test equipment, and controls required for systems integration installation projects
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth vision
• When not on construction sites, experiences normal office conditions and uses office equipment such as computers and peripherals

Travel

• Frequent travel by car and airplane required
• Must possess a valid driver's license in state of residence
• Required to use own vehicle and reimbursed for mileage at current corporate rate
• Local travel to job sites (within a 2-hour driving distance each way): 70-90% typically
• Remote travel can be up to 30% of the job at times
• 10% remote travel required on a regular basis

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent professional experience (Technical, engineering, construction management, or business discipline preferred)
• Advanced leadership or project management training preferred
• Industry certifications (AVIXA, broadcast, media systems) preferred
• MS Project Proficient; Mastery of MS Project preferred

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 5-8+ years of progressive project management experience
• Experience working on a construction site
• Proven estimating experience in construction
• Demonstrated success delivering complex, high-value projects
• Prior experience as a Project Manager required
• Strong preference for hands-on experience in installation, engineering, and field leadership
• Proven ability to lead teams and manage customer relationships in high-pressure environments
