About the role

We are currently seeking a self-driven Senior Roadway Engineer | Project Manager to join our Ohio Transportation team in Columbus or Akron. This is a leadership role within our Transportation Division, responsible for managing roadway and highway design projects across Ohio while strengthening PRIME AE’s presence with ODOT, cities, and county agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Project Manager for ODOT, municipal, and county roadway projects.
  • Develop scopes of work, fee proposals, schedules, and staffing plans.
  • Monitor project financial performance, including forecasting and profitability.
  • Oversee and track project schedules and deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with ODOT standards, AASHTO guidelines, and agency requirements.
  • Lead highway design and roadway computations for urban and rural projects.
  • Provide quality control and oversight of plans, specifications, and cost estimates (PS&E).
  • Guide roadway modeling efforts using Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, or related software.
  • Support interchange design, geometric layout, MOT, transportation planning, and ADA compliance efforts.
  • Support pursuit efforts and assist in winning ODOT, city, and county transportation projects.
  • Maintain strong client relationships through consistent communication and professional representation.
  • Mentor and develop junior and entry-level engineers.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and subconsultants to ensure successful delivery.
  • Prepare technical reports and contribute to proposal development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) required.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in highway design and project management.
  • Experience delivering preliminary and final design for ODOT projects preferred.
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, and roadway modeling tools.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office; experience with MS Project is a plus.
  • Strong familiarity with AASHTO policies and guidelines.
  • Proven ability to manage challenging projects and multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Qualifications

  • Must have a BSCE in Civil Engineering.
  • Must hold an active PE license.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in highway design and project management.
  • Experience with ODOT projects is preferred.
  • Proficient in Civil 3D, OpenRoads Designer, and other relevant software.
  • Strong working knowledge of AASHTO policies and guidelines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments effectively.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
