About the role

The Senior Project Manager provides overall leadership and accountability for the execution of large, complex EPC capital projects within the Energy, Power, and Midstream industries. This role serves as the single point of contact for one or more major clients and ensures projects are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual and corporate requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly manages and mentors Project Managers, Project Leads, Project Engineers, and supporting technical professionals required to execute large capital EPC projects.
  • Responsible for staffing, performance management, and development of project leadership talent.
  • Provides functional oversight of engineering, construction, project controls, scheduling, procurement, quality, and safety teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required. Advanced degree (MBA or similar) preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered with management approval.
  • Minimum of 15 years of total industry experience, including 11+ years in Project Management or Project Leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-capital EPC projects, preferably in the Energy, Power, and/or Midstream sectors.
  • Proven success managing projects with large, multi-discipline teams, significant EPC contract values, and complex scopes, interfaces, and execution strategies.
  • Strong working knowledge of EPC execution models, project controls, cost forecasting, risk management, and construction execution.
  • Experience working directly with owner organizations, executive-level stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Proficient in engineering, project management, and reporting systems commonly used in EPC environments.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as the primary interface with clients for large-scale EPC capital projects, ensuring responsiveness to client needs and alignment with business objectives.
  • Develops and maintains strong executive-level client relationships through regular reviews, alignment sessions, and performance reporting.
  • Establishes and leads the overall project organization, execution strategy, and staffing plan.
  • Oversees development and execution of engineering, procurement, and construction cost estimates for major capital projects.
  • Accountable for safety, quality, cost, and schedule performance across all phases of EPC execution.
  • Leads risk identification, mitigation planning, and root-cause investigations related to safety incidents, quality issues, cost overruns, and schedule impacts.
  • Ensures project teams adhere to corporate project management standards, quality systems, and safety requirements.
  • Maintains responsibility for the EPC capital budget, strategy, and approval of project expenditures.
  • Supports proposal development, client presentations, and business development efforts for large capital EPC pursuits.
  • Ensures effective project close-out, lessons learned capture, and client satisfaction.

Skills

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication and effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Strong interpersonal communication and relationship development skills are critical.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts like cost and schedule risk analysis and estimating techniques.

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally conducts or participates in field trips to existing plants, requiring the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb, and balance. Lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required.
  • Requires clear close and distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Normal work environment is a business office with moderate noise. Occasionally participates in construction meetings at job sites in operating plants, which may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, and airborne particles.
