About the role

The Senior Project Manager ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to profit goals while promoting client relationships and the company’s image.

Project Location: Harlingen, TX (On-site | Travel Required)

Responsibilities

• Ensure quality completion of projects on time and within budget.
• Review contract documents for conflicts, design compliance, subcontract scope, and project plans for specification adherence and constructability.
• Develop and encourage professional growth in others; provide feedback and identify staff development needs.
• Collaborate with the Superintendent to facilitate construction, coordinating staff activities to meet budget, schedule, safety, and quality goals.
• Lead or participate in RFP responses, including site investigation and preliminary design.
• Ensure subcontractors are approved through Alston’s prequalification system (SPERS).
• Create, maintain, and monitor a detailed master project schedule; provide accurate reports on progress.
• Coordinate MEP-intensive scopes, including redundancy, power reliability (UPS, generators), and cooling systems (CRAC/CRAH, chilled water).
• Manage phased turnover of white space and infrastructure systems.
• Coordinate final acceptance, including punch list completion, commissioning, and warranties.
• Develop and maintain client trust; facilitate monthly owner billings and review subcontractor pay requests.
• Provide leadership to the project team; lead client presentations and project meetings.
• Communicate job progress, issues, and design changes to Operations Manager/Director and/or VP/GM.
• Create and foster collaborative subcontractor and project team relationships.
• Identify and document scope changes; prepare and submit change orders.
• Conduct site visits and field investigations as required.
• Coordinate substantial completion, including owner training, O&M manuals, and punch list preparation.
• Manage the commissioning process, including FAT, SAT, IST, and integration with owner teams.
• Proactively address potential project issues; resolve disputes and escalate unresolved matters.
• Oversee subcontract, purchase order, and change order awards.
• Assess project requirements, break into tasks, and determine scope, budget, and staffing needs.
• Maintain strong working knowledge of project plans, specifications, contracts, and related documents.
• Recommend and fill new positions; mentor and train Project Management staff.
• Oversee project cost control and budget management.

Requirements

• Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience managing construction projects for a general contractor, including 3–5 years on mission-critical projects.
• Strong mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) experience preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of MEP construction principles and practices.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
