Senior Project Manager - DERMS
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end delivery of DERMS project scope, ensuring scope, schedule, cost, and quality objectives are achieved.
- Cook up activities performed by system integrators and third-party vendors, including task planning, deliverable reviews, issue resolution, testing coordination, and change management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including IT (OT, Infrastructure, Integration, Cyber Security, Enterprise Architecture, Testing), business operations, distribution engineering, asset management, grid modernization teams, and external partners.
- Lead project activities related to DERMS integration with utility operational systems such as ADMS, SCADA, OMS, EMS, AMI, GIS, and customer/distributed energy platforms.
- Ensure project execution follows established PMO methodologies, governance standards, templates, reporting requirements, and stage gate processes.
- Develop and maintain integrated project plans, schedules, RAID logs, status reports, executive presentations, and stakeholder communications.
- Facilitate workshops, design reviews, technical working sessions, and decision forums related to DERMS functionality, operational workflows, device orchestration, and system integration impacts.
- Partner with SMEs and business stakeholders to validate operational requirements, use cases, integration approaches, data flows, and implementation readiness.
- Identify and manage project risks, dependencies, and issues related to system integration, data quality, cybersecurity, vendor delivery, regulatory compliance, testing, and deployment activities.
- Coordinate testing activities including SIT, UAT, operational validation, and cutover planning to support successful platform implementation and adoption.
- Support change management and operational readiness efforts associated with DERMS deployment and utility transformation initiatives.
- Manage project communications and maintain alignment across executive leadership, technical teams, business stakeholders, and external vendors.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Management, Business Administration or another related field required with 12+ years of project management experience.
- PMP certification required.
- Experience supporting DERMS, ADMS, SCADA, EMS, OMS, AMI, Grid Modernization, or other OT/utility operational platforms preferred.
- Basic understanding of utility operations, distributed energy resources, grid orchestration, and system integration concepts.
- Strong understanding of project management fundamentals including scope, schedule, budget, risk, governance, quality management, and PMO reporting.
- Experience supporting enterprise system implementations, platform modernization, integrations, or large-scale technology transformation initiatives.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) across technical, operational, and executive stakeholder groups.
- Proven stakeholder management and cross-functional coordination capabilities.
- Experience managing vendors, system integrators, and third-party delivery teams.
- Strong risk, issue, dependency, and change management skills.
- Technical project coordination experience supporting enterprise or operational technology platforms.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced, highly regulated, and complex environment.
- Understanding of grid modernization initiatives and distributed energy resource technologies including solar, battery storage, EVs, demand response, and virtual power plants.
- Familiarity with utility regulatory, operational, and cybersecurity considerations preferred.
- Strong skills using Microsoft product suite and PPM/project management tools.
- Prior experience working within utilities or other highly regulated industries preferred.
