About the role
Turner & Townsend are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Construction Project Manager to oversee the planning, execution, and successful delivery of data center construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and risk assessments.
- Cook up with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on project scope, objectives, and design.
- Review and approve construction drawings and technical specifications for accuracy and completeness.
- Lead and manage on-site construction teams, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring smooth collaboration and clear communication.
- Ensure all team members are appropriately trained and comply with safety standards and best practices.
- Conduct regular progress meetings and maintain up-to-date reports on project status, challenges, and milestones.
- Create and manage project budgets, track expenditures, and ensure cost controls are in place.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings while maintaining the project’s quality and safety standards.
- Manage procurement and purchasing of materials and services, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with budget constraints.
- Create and maintain a comprehensive project schedule, ensuring all phases of construction are completed on time.
- Monitor and adjust the schedule as needed to accommodate any changes or unforeseen delays.
- Coordinate the timing of critical tasks, such as equipment installation, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) work, and systems commissioning.
- Ensure the project complies with all relevant construction codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
- Enforce a culture of safety on-site, conducting regular safety audits and inspections.
- Oversee quality control inspections and ensure all work meets required specifications and standards.
- Act as the main point of contact for clients, senior management, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Provide regular updates on project status, including progress reports, risk assessments, and financial forecasts.
- Address any client concerns or issues promptly and professionally to maintain positive relationships.
- Identify potential project risks, including cost overruns, delays, and compliance issues, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Develop contingency plans for critical issues that may arise during the construction process.
- Resolve conflicts on-site, ensuring minimal disruption to the project.
- Oversee the final testing and commissioning of the data center, ensuring that all systems, including power, cooling, and security, are functioning as required.
- Facilitate the handover process to operations teams, ensuring all documentation, warranties, and compliance certificates are delivered to the client.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field. PMP, LEED, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
- A minimum of 7 years' experience working in construction project management, with a focus on data centers, critical infrastructure, or similar technical facilities.
- Proven experience managing complex, large-scale construction projects from inception to completion.
- Knowledge of data center design and construction, including electrical systems, mechanical systems, and IT infrastructure.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Advanced knowledge of project management software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, MS Project).
- Ability to manage budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
- In-depth understanding of construction safety standards and regulations.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Detail-oriented, with a focus on quality and precision.
- Proactive and solution-driven, able to address challenges head-on.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Previous experience working with data center clients (e.g., hyperscale, colocation providers, or large enterprises).
- Familiarity with sustainability initiatives and energy-efficient building practices (e.g., LEED certification, green building techniques).
- Experience with risk management and cost control in high-stakes projects.
