About the Role

Our Automation & Digitalization division is seeking an experienced Class A Project Manager to lead automation and electrification for capital projects. This role requires a solid understanding of automation and electrification technologies, excellent project management skills, and a proven track record of delivering high-value, complex projects on time, within budget, and to client satisfaction. Class A projects involve considerable risks and challenges, making the Senior Project Manager’s role critical to meeting budgetary and stakeholder expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead automation and electrification projects from inception to completion, ensuring project goals, timelines, and budgets are met.
  • Collaborate with technical design leads assigned per the project execution plan.
  • Oversee project administration and financial control as required.
  • Provide procurement assistance to support equipment acquisition.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, budgets, and resourcing, including managing procurement of necessary equipment and materials.
  • Define project objectives, scope, and success criteria in collaboration with stakeholders, identifying opportunities for additional automation and electrification scope.
  • Manage project risks and issues, including developing contingency plans and mitigation strategies, and communicating progress and challenges to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, supply chain) to ensure alignment and timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including clients, vendors, and internal teams, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Provide regular project status updates to stakeholders and senior leadership, including presenting project plans, budgets, and schedules.
  • Mentor and coach junior project managers and team members on best practices and methodologies.
  • Drive continuous improvement of project management processes and tools, including identifying lessons learned.
  • Assist with the development of proposals for Class A projects, ensuring all key responsibilities are addressed to set projects up for success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering or a related field, with a focus on automation and electrification technologies.
  • 8+ years of experience in project management, with a proven track record of delivering automation and electrification projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong understanding of automation and electrification technologies, including industry standards, best practices, and emerging trends.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate project risks and issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in project management tools, such as MS Project or equivalent.
  • Experience in the pulp & paper industry is an asset.
  • Resourceful, self-managed, and goal-driven, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English.
  • Practical knowledge of North American standards.
  • Legally entitled to work in the USA.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international sites (typically 5-20%).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to register as a Professional Engineer would be considered an asset.
