This is a full-time, 2-year term-limited position in the Learning & Project Solutions (LPS) Team within the Business Operations and Support Services Department. The role is based in New York, NY, with a hybrid schedule requiring two days per week or eight days per month in-office. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit represented by ACLU Staff United (ASU).

About the Role

The ACLU seeks a Senior Project Manager to ensure high-impact projects are planned effectively, integrate organizational values and compliance priorities, and meet strategic goals and deadlines. This role serves as a strategic partner to business units, supporting project strategy, project management, and business analysis activities. The Senior Project Manager will also help develop and refine the ACLU’s organizational project management standards and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Project Strategy and Leadership
    • Partner with business units to develop project plans that align with strategic goals and integrate organizational values, best practices, and compliance requirements.
    • Facilitate the definition of project scope, goals, and deliverables.
    • Collaborate with the LPS team and department leadership to define and integrate organizational priorities into standard project management practices.
    • Participate in the Project Management Working Group to create resources, trainings, and practices that support organizational effectiveness.
  • Project Management
    • Develop project plans, including detailed steps for implementation, process definition, user rollout, training, and communications.
    • Manage project schedules to ensure timely completion, adherence to scope, and budget compliance.
    • Oversee project budgets and resource allocations.
    • Facilitate project meetings with clear goals, agendas, and next steps.
    • Identify risks, troubleshoot issues, and recommend strategic, business-oriented solutions.
    • Communicate project status, issues, deadlines, and changes to stakeholders.
    • Manage project closeout steps and post-mortems.
  • Business Analysis and Communication
    • Support or supplement projects with business analysis activities, such as:
      • Collaborating with stakeholders to identify business needs and translate them into documented requirements.
      • Documenting current-state processes and designing future-state processes.
      • Engaging with stakeholders to gather insights into business objectives, processes, and pain points.
    • Develop communication plans and draft project-related communications as needed.
  • Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of successfully leading systems and process implementations in complex environments.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating strategy into project management practices and execution.
  • Comfort with leading cross-departmental projects.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to multitask, reprioritize, and quickly identify project risks and issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to compose, edit, and proof correspondence and documents.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and clarify complex situations.
  • Experience with process improvement analysis.
  • Professionalism in representing the organization and communicating with staff at all levels, maintaining tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, fostering a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with technical systems and implementation projects.
  • Experience in a large, complex nonprofit organization.
  • Minimum of five years of related experience.
  • PMP Certification.

Pay

The annual salary for this position is $128,294 (Level G) for work based in New York, NY. Salaries are subject to a regional pay adjustment if authorization is granted to work outside the listed location. For details on the ACLU’s pay structure, visit ACLU Geographic Pay Structure.
