About the role

We're looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Highway Department and lead the design and execution of critical transportation projects across New York State. The ideal candidate will manage projects through the full lifecycle, mentor junior engineers, and build strong client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire project lifecycle, from initial concept development through construction and closeout.
  • Provide technical leadership and ensure quality and efficiency at every stage.
  • Apply advanced knowledge in transportation design to develop creative, efficient solutions for roadway and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare design reports, plans, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, sharing technical knowledge and project management best practices.
  • Foster a collaborative, growth-oriented team culture.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their goals and expectations to deliver solutions that exceed requirements and build long-term trust.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in New York State.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in transportation design, with a strong focus on NYSDOT/Federal Aid projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D and MicroStation/OpenRoads.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively with clients and stakeholders.
