Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to support the HSE Oxygen Depletion Program by leading engineering assessments, Oxygen Deficiency Hazard (ODH) evaluations, and laboratory safety initiatives. The ideal candidate will have experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, research, chemical, or manufacturing environments and possess strong knowledge of laboratory ventilation systems, engineering risk assessments, compressed gases, and cryogenic liquids.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engineering activities supporting the Oxygen Depletion Program across laboratory and research facilities.
- Perform Oxygen Deficiency Hazard (ODH) assessments and oxygen/CO depletion calculations for laboratories utilizing compressed gases and cryogenic liquids.
- Evaluate laboratory HVAC and ventilation systems to ensure safe operation and compliance with HSE standards.
- Prepare technical risk assessments, engineering reports, and recommend engineering controls to mitigate oxygen depletion hazards.
- Determine requirements for oxygen and CO monitoring systems, safety alarms, and laboratory signage.
- Maintain engineering documentation, laboratory inventories, and program records.
- Collaborate with HSE, Facilities Engineering, Building Engineers, and Research teams to support laboratory safety and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support process automation, SmartForms, and AI-driven engineering workflows to improve assessment efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, Industrial, Biomedical, or a related Engineering discipline.
- 7+ years of engineering experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, laboratory, chemical, research, or manufacturing environments.
- Experience performing engineering calculations, technical risk assessments, and technical report writing.
- Strong understanding of laboratory safety, HVAC/ventilation systems, and engineering controls.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Oxygen Deficiency Hazard (ODH) assessments.
- Knowledge of compressed gases, cryogenic liquids, and NMR laboratory environments.
- Familiarity with OSHA, NFPA, and ASHRAE standards.
- Experience with AI-assisted engineering tools, process automation, SmartForms, or digital engineering workflows.
