About the role
Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Senior Project Engineer or higher to join our Buildings Structural team in the Grand Rapids, MI office. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement. Our structural engineers ensure designs enhance the health, welfare, safety, and comfort of building occupants through strong client connections. Projects include new buildings, renovations, and repurposing, with a focus on cost-effectiveness and sustainability practices.
Responsibilities
- Independently apply knowledge of structural principles and practices in various assignments.
- Prepare engineering calculations using computer software, spreadsheets, and hand calculations.
- Create structural design plans and details in Revit.
- Coordinate with architects, owners, and other engineering disciplines.
- Design and review complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
- Analyze and interpret data, formulate, and solve problems.
- Provide direction to structural engineers, technicians, and administrative staff.
- Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs.
- Perform field investigations and site visits as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited university.
- 7+ years of related structural engineering (buildings/architecture) experience.
- PE license required.
- Intermediate skill level and understanding of Revit with a willingness to progress to an advanced level.
- Extensive knowledge of engineering concepts, theories, principles, and practices in steel, concrete, wood, and masonry.
- Basic/intermediate understanding of structural engineering software such as RISA, RAM, TEKLA, TEDDS, etc., with a willingness to learn and become proficient.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English for job-related communications and instructions.
