About the role

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Senior Project Engineer or higher to join our Buildings Structural team in the Grand Rapids, MI office. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement. Our structural engineers ensure designs enhance the health, welfare, safety, and comfort of building occupants through strong client connections. Projects include new buildings, renovations, and repurposing, with a focus on cost-effectiveness and sustainability practices.

Responsibilities

  • Independently apply knowledge of structural principles and practices in various assignments.
  • Prepare engineering calculations using computer software, spreadsheets, and hand calculations.
  • Create structural design plans and details in Revit.
  • Coordinate with architects, owners, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Design and review complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
  • Analyze and interpret data, formulate, and solve problems.
  • Provide direction to structural engineers, technicians, and administrative staff.
  • Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs.
  • Perform field investigations and site visits as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited university.
  • 7+ years of related structural engineering (buildings/architecture) experience.
  • PE license required.
  • Intermediate skill level and understanding of Revit with a willingness to progress to an advanced level.
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering concepts, theories, principles, and practices in steel, concrete, wood, and masonry.
  • Basic/intermediate understanding of structural engineering software such as RISA, RAM, TEKLA, TEDDS, etc., with a willingness to learn and become proficient.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for job-related communications and instructions.
