About the Role

Worley is seeking a Senior Project Engineer in our Billings, Montana location. In this role, you will manage and mentor a team of engineers and designers, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and efficient delivery across oil, gas, and chemical projects. Responsibilities include guiding technical directions, reviewing deliverables, and driving performance to meet project objectives, safety standards, and client expectations. You will typically manage multiple small projects, a single medium project, or a portion of a large or mega project, with daily operational responsibilities.

Purpose

Responsible for coordinating project plans, contractual arrangements, schedules, activities, and milestones in accordance with Worley’s established policies, procedures, systems, and requirements. You will supervise project personnel through subordinate leaders, bridging the technical gap between the Project Manager and Engineers. This role often functions as an assistant project manager with an engineering background, ensuring engineering work aligns with project plans, and reviewing bills of materials, project schedules, and forecasts for accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Make independent decisions and set priorities for complex situations based on established guidelines, considering cost and schedule impacts.
  • Assign project work and provide technical guidance to team members, reviewing work for technical accuracy and adequacy.
  • Define and select the team required to deliver the scope of work, leading multi-discipline and multi-location project teams.
  • Set clear objectives for the project team, including scope, schedule, productivity, and budget targets.
  • Oversee, motivate, and monitor team performance, addressing any performance gaps.
  • Implement communication tools and processes to ensure all team members are informed about project status and key performance indicators.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of customer contracts to oversee and manage the project.
  • Track and analyze project design deliverables and quantities, understanding project cost buildup, including gross margin.
  • Ensure proper change control processes are understood and used by the project team.
  • Translate contract requirements into Worley’s scope of services and deliverables.
  • Develop and utilize project schedules and resource plans to manage tasks.
  • Manage execution, coordination, and regular reviews to track project progress.
  • Develop action plans to address project tasks and issues.
  • Identify and manage customer and stakeholder relationships, nurturing trust and transparency.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation, contingency, and resolution plans.
  • Maintain a detailed project risk register, updated and communicated regularly.
  • Ensure full commitment to health and safety matters, providing safety leadership to the project team.
  • Apply knowledge of all project aspects (engineering, procurement, quality control) to ensure successful execution.
  • Ensure the design team complies with customer Basis of Design and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Communicate project requirements, deliverables, and expectations clearly with the project team.
  • Resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.

Requirements

  • Advanced understanding of Worley Management and Knowledge Systems, processes, and tools.
  • Competency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Access, and Visio.
  • Full commitment to health and safety matters, with experience in Safety by Design, Constructability, and Maintainability.
  • Experience in Constructability, Operability, and Maintainability Workshops.
  • Knowledge of EPC project delivery workflow and coordination.
  • Basic exposure to procurement/subcontracting and on-site construction support.
  • At least 12 years of experience in petrochemical and refining with project design, execution, and construction.
  • Oil and gas experience, including refinery experience.

Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent in engineering.
  • Preferred: Licensed Professional Engineer.
