Senior Project Engineer
About the role
Tetra Tech is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our Miami office. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer ready to lead technical design and coordination efforts for a wide range of infrastructure projects, including water and wastewater treatment facilities, water distribution systems, pipelines, pump stations, and wastewater collection systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead and perform engineering design for water infrastructure and water resource facilities.
- Oversee site investigations and inspections, delivering detailed technical assessments.
- Develop design calculations, technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
- Evaluate design alternatives, resolve technical challenges, and coordinate across engineering disciplines.
- Serve as a key contact with clients, subconsultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Guide projects through conceptual planning, permitting, and final design, including plans, specifications, and bid packages.
- Provide technical expertise for municipal infrastructure projects, including treatment facilities, pipelines, and pump/collection systems.
- Deliver construction-phase support: bid evaluations, RFI responses, shop drawing reviews, progress reports, and change order evaluations.
- Make independent assessments of engineering challenges, recommending practical solutions and ensuring compliance with standards.
- Mentor junior technical staff and contribute to the growth of the Miami water practice.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering.
- 12+ years of progressive experience in municipal infrastructure or water/wastewater engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) in Civil or Environmental Engineering, registered in Florida (or ability to obtain Florida licensure within 6 months).
- Proven ability to manage technical aspects of complex projects and mentor staff.
- Strong communication, technical writing, and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with municipal permitting and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with hydraulic modeling software; proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit is desirable.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project).
- Ability to travel periodically (approximately 15% or more).
